There's a fantastic array of foods produced here in Leicestershire - and that now includes delicious traditional Hungarian chimney cakes.
The 'kurtoskalacs' are created by French baker Jean-Michel Adalberon, who has recently begun trading at Melton Mowbray Market.

We caught up with Jean-Michel during his very first day of trading in Melton, and indeed in England, to find out more....

What are kurtoskalacs?

Also known as chimney cakes, they are a sweet pastry, rolled on wooden cylinders and baked in a rotisserie oven or open fire.
Before being caked, the chimney cakes are coated in organic raw sugar, which turns to caramel, creating a sweet crispy crust. The inside stays light and soft.
Once toasty brown, the chimney cakes are knocked off their moulds, and they come out smoking like a chimney!

Who is Jean-Michel Adalberon?

Jean-Michel grew up in France, lived in Norway for 25 years, and moved to the UK in 2017.

Food and hospitality are in his blood. He introduced authentic French bread and pastry to Oslo with his successful French bakery.

While on a trip of a lifetime kayaking the Danube from Germany to Hungary, he discovered the amazing food, music and hospitality of Hungary.

Coincidentally, he'd also decided it was time to start a new business, and he felt that chimney cakes were an ideal food to focus on.

His business is called 'Tastes of Transylvania' and operates from a custom-built mobile catering van.

What toppings and fillings are available?

You can have it plain, or coated with your choice of sweet or savoury toppings. If you're hungry, you can have it filled too! all served from his custom-built mobile catering van.

Sweet toppings include cinnamon sugar, coconut and walnut, whilst savoury toppings include cheese and olives.

Sweet fillings of ice cream, Nutella and chocolate ganache are available.

The chimney cakes are naturally vegan and lactose-free.

You'll find Tastes of Transylvania at Melton Mowbray Market on a Tuesday and Sunday all served from his custom-built mobile catering van.

A chimney cake with caramelised sugar is £3.00, and with sugar and cinnamon, shredded coconut or grated walnut crumble is £3.50.
Extra toppings are 50p each.
