Danny Healey 'thrilled' as Porky's burger van saga reaches happy conclusion

His business is now set up in a prime location

A saga involving a burger van in Pride Park has taken yet another twist with the news it has been offered a “perfect” spot.

Back in November, Danny Healey was asked to find a new home for his Porky’s Mobile Catering business. It had been based at Disability Direct, in Royal Scot Road, for three years – but the business asked him to move to free up more parking spaces.

Gareth Carter, owner of neighbouring business Momentum Recruitment, then offered him a spot on its premises, which gladly Danny took up.

However, the new spot was less visible than the van’s previous home.

As a result, Danny has now taken up another offer – this time from property developer John Blount, chairman of Ivygrove Developments.

It means the burger van can now be found closer to where Royal Scot Road meets Royal Way, which leads to Pride Park Stadium.

Danny, 38, said it was “great news”.

He said: “Gareth and John are both genuine and nice people. They know I wanted to keep trading as a small business to make a living. I'm so grateful and I’d like to thank them for all of their time and support."

John – who has developed numerous sites across Derby – said he was happy to help.

He said: "I could see it wasn't a good location for him and I said I've got a better spot for you. It was a question of fixing him up so he can carry on maintaining status quo.

"Danny's such a friendly, nice bloke. Everyone knows Danny and everyone I know doesn't have a bad word to say about him."

Gareth said he was pleased the saga has reached a positive conclusion.

“John Blount is a true gent,” he said. “It's good of him to get involved. It's a perfect scenario for Danny, he does a great job for everyone on the estate."

Danny set up his trading business in 2001, but seven years later he had to give up his catering business after he was attacked at the back of Sadlers Bar while on a night out with friends on September 21, 2008.

The savage attack left him with brain damage and he was in a coma for 11 months.

After a long journey of recuperation recovering from his injuries, he began trading again in October 2015.
