Mobile Catering Solutions – Conversion Units

Here at Wilkinson’s we have the facilities, experience and expertise to convert almost any type of vehicle into a catering unit or retail solution. We offer a bespoke Service designed and built to your specifications, with fully lined interiors, cab partitions, stainless steel counters, supply and fitting of equipment, installation of lighting and electrics, LPG gas supply, reconstruction, hatch manufacture and all manner of creations, styles and finishes can be achieved.

We do all the construction and manufacture in house; our engineers and fabricators can make just about anything a reality, making us a one-stop-shop, for all your mobile catering and retail needs. Conversions can be done in two ways.
We either convert an existing body like a panel van. We build a new body on the back of a chassis cab or pick up style vehicle.

We generally advise customers a box on the back of a chassis cab will give you much more space and freedom than that of a panel van and would therefore advise not to purchase a van until you have spoken with us and received advice. Building a box on the back of a chassis may give you more peace of mind should anything happen to the vehicle as the box could potentially be taken off and transferred to another chassis.

Please note that conversion prices on panel vans or horse boxes and pickups are P.O.A and will depend on the length and complexity of the van. Ideally, we would like to see the unit you wish to convert in order to give you an accurate quote. Please call to book an appointment and if possible bring your vehicle along if you have already purchased it, if not wait till you have been to see us before you proceed with a purchase.

Wilkinson’s are unable to purchase used vehicles on your behalf due to being unable to provide you a warranty but we will help and advise you in purchasing the correct vehicle for your needs.

Drivable vs Towable

A drivable unit offers businesses more freedom and sometimes flexibility in the type of events or business they do. Providing less set up time than a trailer means you can do rounds in local villages without the means to sustain permanent shops like fish and chip shops, provide meals to the homeless or elderly or to businesses on industrial estates.
The size of unit you need may be dictated by the equipment and in turn may also dictate the type of van you may need.
Drivable is also an option for people who may have not passed their test till after 1997 and would therefore need to pass a trailer test for units over a certain weight etc, but are able to drive a vehicle up to 3500kg.

Modern Van Conversions

Modern van conversions will offer you ultimately more reliability and possibly cut down your start-up costs and ongoing maintenance costs meaning less down time. There are many more vehicles readily available for conversion and they come in a wide range of prices and lengths to suit your needs.

Our clients who are based in London and the surrounding areas need to be mindful of LEZ rules which may dictate to you the age of vehicle you will need to have in order to skip heavy penalty charges.

Vintage Van Conversions

Vintage vans/trailers are becoming increasingly popular as a nostalgic solution to mobile catering needs and are a great investment. Choosing a vintage van for your mobile catering or retail business will, without a doubt set your business apart and will open doors of opportunity for you. These vans could potentially appreciate in value as a classic, as the number of available vans for conversion decreases.

There are many types of vans/trailers that could be used for conversion, some will have restrictions to equipment placement and how much equipment may be used inside, we will help and advice where best we can to make sure the vehicle will work for you and your business. Vintage may inevitably also mean that the start-up costs can be greater but will attract more clients and set your business apart.

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/ is a great website to find unusual vehicles.
